Social Distancing Jam

Here we got Pat, Jim, William and Richard. They’ve been meeting every Sunday on the back deck for the last month and we hope to continue through the summer. As you can see, we are placed 6 feet apart at all times.

Sometimes I am recruited to hit the kendang for this non-profit organization that promotes Indonesian arts and culture.

Here is a bunch of pirates:

Pirates who play music for local belly dance troupes

This band is known in Northern Colorado as the Alexandria Ensemble. Mostly drummers, but then a guitar player on the left and some guy playing a left-handed instrument on the right that the band calls a “tandoori” . No, it’s not a tandoori, but it’s tuned like a Turkish baglama saz.  Nice group picture!

Wy Bloco

Sunday, April 21st, 2019

At the Hilton Garden Inn Conference Center in beautiful downtown Laramie:

It’s Bloco em FoCo featuring Marcus Santos

Now with a group of newer members at this year’s Festa Brasil we played to a full house and Marcus had ’em dancing all night!

Then an encore performance with dancer Luciana De Silva

We did our thing with Marcus and then were asked to come back for a little presentation featuring native Brazilian Ms. De Silva (web site here) who easily became the top contender for best dancer with the least amount of clothing.

Mike leading the group playing maybe Lavada or perhaps Ginga

Here we are doing our best to keep up with Marcus. Oh, HAPPY EASTER BTW!

TOUR DE FAT

Saturday, September 1st, 2018

Hey, this is year 10 for us!

These girls were playing the Surdos

And here is a sample of the bike riders

This year’s pirate ship is bigger!

And there were some interesting out of this world costumes

Of course BLOCO EM FOCO was there!

Colorado Latino Week Festival

Bloco em Foco was there!

Live music and dancing

Bloco em Foco on a covered stage

Too bad it was raining but at least we didn’t have to deal with hail (like in Greeley) or flooding (like in Johnstown) . We actually had a great time at the festival except some of the food trucks were forced to leave for not having the proper permits (Boulder has strict laws– I’m sure we broke some noise laws as well?)

Colorado Med Fest

Friday, June 1st, 2018

Well, the weather was great!

The “Twins” at the festival

Richard and some of the dancers

And some of the performers

This was another Alexandria performance (4 sets total over a 2 day period). When you add up the time it takes to haul all that equipment to the Devil’s Backbone Open Space in Loveland, Colorado, put up the tent, take it down after the show, provide refreshments for the crew and dancers we probably made about $2/hour per person– But it was worth it!

BLOCO is BACK!

Did it ever leave?

Ready for the Tour De Fat

Some rather complicated gears

Not a bicycle

The BLOCO Band!

Bloco is back in the park

Monday, April 10th, 2017

Maybe some new people added?

Bloco em Foco starts up Monday in the park

The best samba band in Fort Collins is working on getting their normal First Friday outings by rehearsing in City Park every Monday in 2017!
