Not the Grateful Dead:

Jerome, Jennifer & Jason

The skeleton gloves were a good touch. We’ll have to use some gloves like those for ‘Bloco Em Foco’ sometime in the future.

And introducing ‘Jamila Lotus’ bellydance carnival

Tricia & Colette

Josephine

Here Josephine is balancing on the top of a dumbek Middle Eastern goblet drum. It is said that the name dumbek comes from the two sounds that can be produced from the drum: Doom!, the base sound and Beck!, the rim-shot.

A Picasso

Monday, March 14th, 2011

At the Open Stage Theater:

A Picasso

A play by Jeffrey Hatcher at the Open Stage Theatre & Company and performed at The Nonesuch Theater; Charlie Ferrie played the part of Pablo Picasso with Nicole Gawronski as Miss Fischer, the Greman cultural attache in Nazi occupied Paris. This is an excellent drama about artistic freedom and just another example of some of the great local talent we are fortunate to have. If you get a chance, go see it!

Note: I searched around for Picasso drawings and found this one shown above; Those of you who may have seen this production may note the similarities to this drawing and the costume and hair style worn by Ms. Gawronski in this play.

At CSU’s Lory Student Center

Consisting in part of: Dancers of India

A large Japanese group

This guy from Kuwait who borrowed one of our drums

This bunch from Saudi Arabia

This Korean girl playing a Gayagium

and these folks in a Thai village.

These pictures were taken back-stage at the Lory Student Center Theater during the “World Talent Showcase” where various groups including the world famous Samba band from Fort Collins ‘Bloco em Foco’ were in attendance.

Haunted Organs

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

At the CSU UCA:

The Casavent Frères Organ

It’s in the Organ Recital Hall of the University Center for the Arts (UCA).  The organ has 2,0079 pipes and takes up 4,500 square feet of floor space.

Sam Dawson

We’re at the 5th Annual Halloween Organ Extravaganza; Above Sam is dressed as a witch and played J.S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in d minor. It’s the organ piece that is a halloween tradition!

William Harned

Dressed as Darth Vader, Mr. Vader played the Bach e minor Prelude and Fugue.

Dick Borowski

This time the Phantom of the Opera played the Prelude in g minor (The Toccata and Fugue in d minor was usually the phantom’s theme song as it were).

A trumpet gnome from the CSU Faculty Brass Quintet

Featuring the world premiere of Nicole Buetti’s ‘Through the Haunted Carnival’. Ms. Buetti is the professor of Applied Bassoon and Contra Bassoon at CSU-Pueblo. She will most-likely be in attendance at the “Bassoon-a-RAMa”, the Largest Gathering of Bassoonists in the World on November 19th at the CSA. Be there!

Rami Cho

As a little devil, Ms. Cho chose ‘Humoresque’ by Pietro Yon

Phyllis Furguson and Ting Ting Chan

Furious footwork was the key for these performers. Ms. Furguson knocked out a comical rendition of Noel Rawsthorne’s ‘Hornpipe Humoresque’ while Ms. Chan (not at the same time mind you) easily walked through Charles-Marie Widor’s “Allegro” from Symphony VI.

Near City Park:

Wilbur, the famous mascot of Dave’s

And right behind Wilbur’s left shoulder you can see Jeanne peeking at the camera! Wilbur has his own Children’s hospital support charity and Face Book Group if you are interested. Dave Anderson started with his first rib shack in Chicago years ago and now that he’s famous, he’s everywhere. Why can’t Papa Dell’s be famous too?

In Old Town Fort Collins:

Students get tear gas treatment

SWAT gets called in

Classes start on Monday at CSU! Why not greet them with a little chemistry test and some first hand application of 2-chlorobenalmalononitrile?  Apparently well after Earth Wind and Fire completed their music and the area in front of the stage was emptied some fights broke out; bottles were lobbed at police, vendor tents were sacked, and two people were thrown through a window. Welcome to college dude! Bummer. Three bad posts in a row. Let’s go someplace else:

“Hey there! Want whiter teeth?”

She can take that blue thingy currently attached to her front pocket and place it in your mouth during today’s special teeth whitening promotion.

Get that laser smile in only 20 minutes! Not for us, instead:

We sat on the grass and listened to Euforquestra

who’s PC around here?

I saw this sign in one of the towns:

Note the weird drawing on the sign!

Also: Not having the best internet in Iowa these days!

Lend me a tenor

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

at the Bas Bleu:

We took the group out to see the last performance of  She Stoops to Conquer

And now a new set had to be built for the next production: Lend Me A Tenor. Jeanne and I helped out in the morning to get part of the stage ready.  The  flats were ready-made by the set designer so all we had to do was unload them from the truck and place them on stage!

There are seven doors in the set! That’s a lot of hinges!

Our theater group has tickets for The Mostlies in June so we might miss the Tenors although we have comp tickets for helping build the set. This year the Mostlies are ready for “Up, Up and Astray” or “We Did It For The Show!”. I guess you can figure out that’s all about!

What is the matter with Greeley?

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

It’s great to poke fun at?

Native! The Musical at the Nonesuch theater

There really is something about Greeley. I noticed it in my first post about the town titled: Pray for Greeley.  And many other folks around town know that there is something about Greeley such that our local talent created a little musical that only NoCo’s would love.  Greeley gets no respect. The Chicago suburbs had Berwyn and now we have Greeley.

Anyhow, it was a wonderful comedy about native Coloradans and us newcomers. We even got to meet Harper, the little girl featured in the poster.

I’m probably going to bike over to Greeley in the next few months in preparation for the RAGBRAI and meet some people there and get another perspective about the town. — I just won’t tell them I’m from Fort Collins!
