Lost in 2012

Monday, December 31st, 2012

We lost some really good ones in 2012. Here’s two I knew:

Wild Bill Cody

AKA William Schneible,  Ex Coast Guard then radio DJ and all around crazy guy.  He once pushed a peanut with his nose on Michigan Avenue in Chicago. In the above picture he is dressed as Madonna while working for KWNZ in Reno, NV. I met Wild Bill in 2009 while I was at the ELTC helping him use computers. December 25, 2012.

Herb Geist

Shown above in the black sweater wearing 3-D glasses, Herb was a great friend; we traveled the Mediterranean together; We miss his smile. Note: He didn’t dress in costume much like Wild Bill, but those in the know remember the “cow suit’ incident. January 6, 2012.

Goodby guys, It was a fun trip.

Signs ‘o the Times

On the road again with Duncan Madog:

A new Store in Town

We all voted YES to Amendment 64 which legalizes possession, consumption, and cultivation of up to six plants for adults 21 years of age and older, and set in place the outline for the regulation of retail cannabis stores as the above new store hopes to be one of the first on College Avenue.  The amendment also sets aside the first 24 Million dollars in Tax revenue from those stores for schools and education. The actual licensing regs won’t be on the books until sometime in 2014 so all of you out East of here needn’t buy your plane tickets to DIA just yet.

The Mason Corridor

2014 is also the year when Transfort will complete the BRT they call MAX. It’s a Bus Rapid Transit system that will run alongside the BNSF tracks between the FoCO downtown transit center and a new South Transit Center just south of Mason and Harmony Street.

Sonny Lubeck field and Hughes is so 2007

Well, maybe there will be a new stadium at CSU by 2015. A new stadium means that ‘better’ football players will come to CSU and then the RAMS will start winning some games like they did back in the Lubeck years.  And why should people have to go way way over to Hughes (2 miles from town) when it would be more better right in the middle of CSU campus? Then again there are others who think the old Hughes Stadium is good enough. Why don’t they just build another BRT system to Hughes and save $200 million?

Bike ‘N’ Breakfast

Wednesday, December 12th, 2012

Entered on 12/12/12 at 12:12

Oh NO! Winter Bike To Work. Let’s go check out some of the breakfast spots:

Stop #1 Banana muffins and cinnamon rolls, coffee too.

Presented by ‘Branch Out Cider’ and the Ski Chicken Coop as featured in the Fort Collins Tour de COOP chicken coop bike ride which I have yet to participate. The cider company is looking for your apples!

Stop #2: Bacon Burritos!

…and some veggie burritos I didn’t try, but I’m sure they were good. Old town Spice Shop did this one, and the burritos were indeed spicy. This was located in the back parking lot of:

The OtterBox Company

They gave away a few goodies: I got an OtterBox hat  and an OtterBox Bicycle bell. Otterbox donated $1.3 million to the FCMOD for their Digital Dome theater. That’s why it’s called “The Otterbox Digital Dome Theater”.

New This Year

Riders can use their smart phones to check-in at each breakfast place. Since my cell phone is ONLY A PHONE = No Camera, No Internet, No cook stove, etc., I couldn’t read this QR code as it were.

Stop # 3 from the Rio and Climate Wise

This was on Oak Street Plaza where Bloco em FoCo plays on First Fridays. Beleza!

Stop # 4 at the Food Co-op and sponsored by the Bohemian Foundation

The Food Co-op was working on some kind of theme for this bike to work day. Because it was 12/12/12 they were getting ready for the zombie apocalypse by making sure the bike riders had an ample supply of espresso cookies,  java bites and gluten free oatmeal. They even had someone available for “Zombie Face Painting” in case you wanted to blend in with the zombies. ??

Stop #5 – The old standard = New Belgium Brewing with co-sponsor Ridekick

Here they had something called “Vegetarian Sausage” or apparently imitation pig scraps created by food scientists for vegetarian consumption.  Actually the ‘sausage’ was not that bad. I also test-drove the new Ridekick Burley electric trailer conversion. Very nice! It would make a nice Christmas gift.

Stop # 6 In-Situ and Tastebuds

These guys seem to always have the best coffee but you have to ride the Poudre River path to get there. It’s worth it!

Stop #7 by the Bike Library and Bike Co-op

Serving oatmeal at the Happy Lucky. We’ve been to their basement for Haunted Fort Collins a while ago. It’s spooky still.

So, what about those QR codes? Well, if you had a smart phone you could have scanned in the code and by the end of the morning the bike Fort Collins folks would have collected data on your travels that might look like this:

Data from the FCGOV.COM website showing where I went on 12/12/12

Of course not having a smart phone meant that I came home after the ride and manually put the scans in. If they tracked the time, it might look like I traveled to all these places in less than 3 minutes. Ha!

Part One: The concept of the Unibrow.

Oh, look! Someone vandalized this sign.

Those experts in the field of eyebrow fusion call this condition synophrys.  It’s from the Greek σύνοφρυς (synophrys, “with meeting eyebrows”). There was this blog started in 2008 but didn’t get very far. Oh well, No Unibrows Allowed, then.

Part two: Man wearing CSU Plumbing hardware

In the twilight zone that is the Art Lab which has new stuff on First Friday. Of course Bloco em Foco does First Friday so I never go.

Lastly, Part three, The Pirate Accordionist

The pirate speaks,”Hey, What else be thar t’ this here blog anyhow? “*
