FOCOMX #8

Sunday, April 24th, 2016

Wow! This is our eighth music experiment. Time sure does fly! Here’s a memory from our first time!

It’s FALE, the African Drum and Dance group

Drumming in this town is everywhere. Our first introduction was the symphony for 1000 drums. Funny, I never attended a FALE class. Oh well, there’s still time.

This is a band called BONER

So, it’s a band with a female singer/cello player who plays what they call “Dirty Funky Rock” with songs likeĀ  “Nobody loves me ’til three in the morning” andĀ  “Sweet statutory summer”. They were at the “R Bar”, a a new gay-friendly alternative bar in town.

And of course we had to see Musketeer Gripweed

Again. We couldn’t pass up seeing the Reverend Monkey Paw and his friends. It was a great show, even if it was at the Aggie Theater (sure, the new owners cleaned the floor, but how long will that last?)

Remember last September when we went to Chimney Rock ? No? Well click HERE if you forgot.

Chimney Rock Farms has a Mobile Hemp Lab!

It’s a chemical extraction laboratory! Basically you can take this to hemp farms within Colorado Washington state to provide an extraction service on the spot. You can just pack up and go to the next farm and do it all over again. It even has a bunk and portable toilet so you can save on hotel bills.

Basic ethanol extractor

Remember back when I sold some of my extractors on E-Bay? There’s an old post from May, 2008 about selling my micro Soxhlet. Oh, HERE it is!

Here, this guy explains it

“How can farmers profit in the new Hemp Nutraceutical value chain if they are locked into the commodity side of the business?” Huh? What? Oh, look! 22 Liter flasks!

Rocket Science

Saturday, April 2nd, 2016

At least it seemed that way:

On the door of the Prius anyhow

Thanks to the Fort Collins Creator Hub and their nifty little vinyl cutter, I now have this professional looking ‘Official Rocket Scientist’ decal that I can show off whenever I’m at the FCMOD.

Paper Rockets shot indoors

Not as bad as the Comic Con and lots more fun. Actually I’m not sure many rockets were built at Comic Con; I knew a few of them exploded. We’ve since fixed that problem and I’m sure the museum was glad we did.

Parents helping kids make the rocket tubes

This seemed to work out well. I had five test rocket forms for the kids to roll paper onto, and there really was no huge wait times to get there rockets launched. It was fun, and I didn’t have to search for lost rockets inside the museum (the regular employees got to do that).

An easy kids activity

Once you have a rocket launcher, the rest is easy!
