At the ‘Mish’

Just take US287/14 north to Ted’s Place, turn left on 14 and go 13.7 miles along the Poudre River:

Joan Baez was there tonight

The Mishawaka or just plain “Mish” is an outdoor music venue north of FoCo as opposed to Red Rocks which is south of FoCo. We have driven up the Poudre Canyon for years and never stopped at the Mish maybe because it looked really too small for a proper concert location and it didn’t seem to have much parking, and driving back at night on the dark winding roads seemed treacherous, and, gee, what kind of concerts do they actually have, and who goes there? On this day, Joan Baez called us and we did indeed check out the Mish for he first time! (We took the Mish shuttle bus there because, really, where could you park at this place????)

Joan’s Band

Consisting of Dirk Powell, Grace Stumberg and Gabriel Harris. Joan sang a few numbers that she sang at Woodstock 45 years ago. Was it really that long ago? And Dirk Powell is a great musician; a founding member of the Balfa Toujours and ex-husband to Dewey Balfa’s daughter Christine. I know the name because I once met Dewey Balfa in 1970 in the kitchen of a bluegrass band called the Bean Blossom Public Librarians. There’s probably a good story in there somewhere…
