At the Polk-a-Dot:
Yes, the 1950’s are alive at the Polk-a-Dot where the woman’s restroom is adorned with all sorts of pictures of Elvis (The men’s room have Marilyn). Outside there are life-sized statues of The King and other 50’s notables. It’s in Braidwood, Illinois along the historic US 66 route.
The life sized? hydrocephalic cartoon character is still popular, and, according to her website there is going to be a new full length cartoon coming to your neighborhood theaters soon! Too bad the locals in Braidwood have to go to Wilmington to see it.
Created by Jack Barker of Essex, Illinois. They have a kind of Bill Swets outsider art look but more organic and not so extinct. Located across from the Polk-a-Dot.
Includes a chrome plated sculpture!
…of something. Some Braidwood businesses bought some of Jack’s sculptures for display in this little park. I think the town of Timnath was going to do the same with Bill Swets’ animals but I don’t think that’s gonna happen.
