What started out as a fund raiser for the FoCo Cafe turned into a local film fest and our crazy movies we made over the past few years were featured. At this event, the local drive-in theater “Holiday Twin” had asked local film makers for short movies to show on the big screen. Our two films were shown and we really think our efforts were the best of the show because: 1) They were funny 2)They were not boring, and 3) They were cheaply made with style!

We On the BIG SCREEN!
Sunday, August 18th, 2019Oscar Night
Monday, June 18th, 2018Here are our wonderful performers!
From the awards show (maybe) for best picture category
This is the cast from the movie “The Making of a Giant Stepp” which was entered into the 4th round of the 48 hour film fest, which means that some of us stayed up all night editing a really goofy but perhaps funny six and a half minute movie. If anything, we should at least get an award for “Oldest Team on the planet”. Who knows?
Coming to a theater near U
Sunday, June 17th, 2018Oh Boy, this is going to be GREAT!
Stop-motion technician making intricate changes to the clay model
The premier of “The Making of a Giant Stepp” won’t be until the FoCo Fringe Festival sometime end of July, but just to warn you we have decided to include a stop-motion scene to the “48 Hour Movie Festival” simply because the organizers said they have yet to see stop-motion in any of the entries to date.
Aliens Like Us
Tuesday, February 28th, 2017Not sure how we pulled this one off:
M.E. and Dave goofing off with the camera
As part of our advertising effort we made a phony “Behind the scenes” video for our 48Hour movie entry. For this idea, I made a cardboard 50’s era film camera, a clap board, a comical boom mic and a “director’s chair’. This ended up as a short B&W silent ad for the Lyric Cinema Cafe’s “48 Hour Film Fest”. It’s my opinion that our BTS (Behind the scenes) entry was much appreciated by the Lyric’s film judges as they seemed to use it extensively for the final showing on Feb. 28th.
By just Photo-shopping some of our big-head costumes that were used in the final film the above graphic and a few others were posted on social media to let people know about the experimental films that were being shown at the old Lyric theater (that will be torn down soon to make way for some apartment buildings). Our team name was “The 8th Bit Revolution” for reasons I can’t seem to remember.
Director, Producer, Actor #1, Actor #2
Not sure why the Lyric Theater didn’t want their name on the credits, but someone thought the name “Weekend Warriors” would describe the 17 teams who worked on making a 7 minute movie in 48 hours on a weekend in February. The rules were 1) Make a 7 minute film in 48 hours, 2) Include three props supplied at the start (we had 2 masks and a yellow hat) 3) Include “twins” somewhere in the movie, and 4) Use the phrase “That thing you just did; Don’t do that!” Simple enough! So we did “Aliens Like Us” and turned it in in the nick of time!
Wow, we won in three categories!
We though we would get a prize just for entering or perhaps “Oldest Team in the history of 48 Hour film festivals” and/or best effort advertising on social media, but I guess because we have a basement full of costumes, BEST COSTUME DESIGN does make sense in a way. The BEST ANIMATION no doubt because no other team used animation even though we had only 5 second of it. BEST CREDITS is a bit weird because we screwed up on the final credits but the title credits worked much better and it showed that some effort was made to mock Big Hollywood. Even if we would not have won anything, it was a hell of a lot of fun!
HORSING AROUND
Friday, December 16th, 2016We were making a movie:
The movie we were making was a bit of a practice run for the 48 Hour Film Festival coming on February 10, 2017. IN the above, Jim and Dave had a scene that needed some horses, so we were able to borrow some real gentile horses from Laughing Buck Farm to collect some actual horse riding action.
1st Dome Club Meeting?
Thursday, January 16th, 2014Wesley’s Birthday Party
Monday, September 3rd, 2012At the Holiday Twin Drive-in Theater:
The cars are queued up.
They’re all going to the drive-in; an outdoor theater where you park your car and set up chairs or couches in a parking lot and watch a movie. How strange is that?
On acres of undeveloped realestate
The owners of this theater have had offers but they don’t want to see this theater die. It’s the last of about 380 such theaters still in operation in the U.S.
Tonight’s the last night
For the season that is. And it’s the last night to see a 35 mm film show. Yes, like everyone else, this theater is going digital next year (at a cost of $250K). It’s also the owner’s birthday so you can get in for $10 per car load!
The view from the screen looking in the direction of the snack bar
It was a nice night to sit out on lawn chairs and enjoy a movie under the stars. The posts between the parked cars have those old metal speaker boxes (some work, some don’t, some have been ripped off) but most people just tune into the movie broadcast frequency on their FM radios for the audio.
Looks like the show will start in about 10 minutes
The sun setting in the direction of the “Big A” on the foothills. Not just a movie theater, it’s the natural setting of the sun and the meteor showers after closing that attracts us to this place.
Snack Bar
Here the theater attendants are outside grilling up cheese burgers and bratwurst. Inside you can get root beer floats, cotton candy, funnel cake, churros and all sorts of glow sticks. It’s the snack bar that keeps this theater in business; make sure you visit it early and often.
The movie
We saw a double feature: The Bourne Legacy and Ted. We knew what to expect with the ‘Legacy’ movie. Ted was actually better than we thought so we stayed for both features. See you guys next year!
Byllynsgate What?
Thursday, October 6th, 2011KRFC ?
It’s a music, art and film SPECTACULAR sponsored by KRFC 88.9FM radio
Music By WhiteCatPink below an anti-drug movie playing on screen
Perhaps Byllynsgate is the new independent film answer to Lionsgate Films and/or the area that was the old fish market in London. The “Ball” goes on every other Thursday at the Lyric Cinema where this evening the feature was WhiteCatPink who is this drummer who is always seen around town dressed in a white cat outfit. As noted by this I-Am-Bored blogsite, it really *is* difficult to explain. One thing for sure is that he is not from the planet Saturn; I know beings from Saturn and he’s not one of them!
a note to self:
Saturday, September 25th, 2010We forgot to register for this:
The Shoot Out
Our movie would have been due by 6:28PM TODAY. Check out THIS LINK for more info. Somebody remind me to do this next year!
