Singers

The Singers at take apart day seen here:

A sewing machine being taken apart

This is at the take apart day at the FCMOD. It’s coming up again this Saturday and if I’m lucky the sewing machine repair store nearby will have some more machines that are placed out by the dumpster for me to collect.

Also FOCOMX was this past weekend. We purchased some wrist-bands and listened to some great music Friday and Saturday. No pictures this time… this was our 10th FOCOMX and there were singers:

On Friday we went to Washington’s for the Wendy Woo band, took the MAX over to Avo’s for the Robert Wilson Blues band, then walked over to the Tap N Handle for the Max Mackey Band. Took the MAX back to the North Transit for Musketeer Gripweed but decided not to go in because of THE LONG LINE OF PEOPLE WAITING TO BE SEARCHED FOR METAL OBJECTS ! WHY IS THAT? Anyhow, since our car was parked near there we called it an evening and went home.

On Saturday, we went to The Magic Rat for the Songwriters in the Round with Liz Barnez, then The Mainline for the Choice City Seven, then Avo’s for FY5 and Bonnie & the Clydes. As usual, TOO MANY BANDS, TOO LITTLE TIME.

FOCOMX #8

Sunday, April 24th, 2016

Wow! This is our eighth music experiment. Time sure does fly! Here’s a memory from our first time!

It’s FALE, the African Drum and Dance group

Drumming in this town is everywhere. Our first introduction was the symphony for 1000 drums. Funny, I never attended a FALE class. Oh well, there’s still time.

This is a band called BONER

So, it’s a band with a female singer/cello player who plays what they call “Dirty Funky Rock” with songs like  “Nobody loves me ’til three in the morning” and  “Sweet statutory summer”. They were at the “R Bar”, a a new gay-friendly alternative bar in town.

And of course we had to see Musketeer Gripweed

Again. We couldn’t pass up seeing the Reverend Monkey Paw and his friends. It was a great show, even if it was at the Aggie Theater (sure, the new owners cleaned the floor, but how long will that last?)

Local Music #6

Friday, April 25th, 2014

The 6th year of FOCOMX:

Jimi Harrison at Everyday Joe’s

Jerusalem Road at La Luz

Wow, hard to believe it’s the sixth FOCOMX. Have we been here that long? One thing for sure, I still can’t take very good pictures of performers in town.

FOCOMX 2013

Sunday, April 21st, 2013

It’s that time of year for the weekend of local music called the Fort Collins Music Experiment. Here’s some new/old ones we haven’t seen at the experiment before:

The commoners at Odells Brewery

Elmer Funk at Fort Collins Brewery

Colorado Swing at Everyday Joe’s

The Lincoln Jam Band at Avo’s

The Lincoln IB World Middle School has an incredibly talented group of young musicians. This band pictured above are 6,7 and 8th graders who practice daily and are mentored by a member of the band Euforquestra, a band we’ve known about since the day they moved into town from Iowa.

‘MX

Sunday, April 15th, 2012

If nothing else, here is photographic proof that we can stay up late two nights in a row:

Tuatha at Avo’s

THROAT at Avo’s

Catch Bees at Everyday Joe’s

Danielle Ate the Sandwich at Everyday Joe’s

MISCOMUNICADO at Potts Clubhouse

Turn 4 at Road 34

The Patti Fiasco at Road 34

We survived another FoCoMX experience and got to listen to some of the best local music we could find. It’s not an easy task since the FoCoMX this year featured two nights of 300+ bands at 35+ locations.

It’s Sunday and we have tickets for “The Ladies Man” at Lincoln Center this afternoon. Can’t wait for Monday so I can take a breather!

FoCoMX Part 2

Sunday, April 10th, 2011

Then on Saturday:

Aaron, Erin, Mike and Ryan

From one of our local bluegrass bands “Finnders and Youngberg” playing in front of some beer brewing kettles at the Equinox Brewing Company.

Tony Mihaly at The Armadillo

Jay J Mattot and the Arctic at The Armadillo

The bartender at The Armadillo makes a great margarita. At $2.99 per glass yet!

Chris Nucci at the Lyric Cinema Cafe

We ducked in to hear Adam Bodine playing to several Fatty Arbuckle films, but we went into the wrong theater and instead watched the last half of the movie “Black Death”. It was a good place to rest up after all those Armadillo margaritas.

“The Patti Fiasco” at Avo’s

Greg and Ben of the Hi Beams at Avo’s

Ben, Halden and Bret of “Halden Wofford and the Hi Beams”  at Avo’s

The Best Entertainment deal in town:

Saturday, April 9th, 2011

It’s the FoCoMX or the Fort Collins Music Experiment!

Candy Claws at Hodi’s Half Note

They had these funny animal hats on their heads and played mostly synthesized music and sang in whispers so you couldn’t hear the lyrics.

A Melodic Daydream at Choice City Butcher

With LnZ Kayd and Chris Newton. My spellcheck didn’t get worried when it saw the name “LnZ’ because it’s the airport code for Hoersching Airport in Austria. Interesting.

Mister Tim at Choice City Butcher

You could go to Mister Tim’s YouTube site to see and hear what he does. At first we were thinking “Oh No! Mouth noises!”, but after a while his a cappella weirdness started to grow on us.  I’m also figuring that one-man acts are better because you don’t have to share the money with other band members.

Hermanas de los Muertos at the Armadillo

They sounded alright, but that was after several Armadillo margaritas. I think the original band is composed of two cello players and one violin player. Worth checking out at a less crowded venue, green skin or not!

Baily Staufer at The East Coast Bar

It was Blues and Folk Rock. We got a free CD.

Umlaut at the East Coast Bar

A ‘German’ rock band playing ‘Crunk’, or Crazy Drunk music. A popular title: “Bring Ze Fraulines”. We know that at least the bass player (on the right) is wearing a wig.

The Adam Bodine Trio minus one

Here with Kalin Capra on bass and Adam Bodine on keyboard.

and the Adam Bodine Trio minus 2 at Elliot’s

Cool jazz drumming by Peter Knudson.

The Silent Disco at the Old Goodwill Building

From 10pm to 3am you could revel in the use of wireless technology and groove to your favorite beat without anyone actually hearing what your particular groove is. This concept has been around for years but the name ‘Silent Disco’ hadn’t been used until 2002. In February 2011 ‘Silent Disco’ was added to the Oxford Dictionary Online which states: silent disco: an event at which people dance to music that is transmitted through wireless headphones rather than played over a speaker system.
