Tribe Nawaar

Saturday, October 20th, 2018

Went to Boulder to play for the tribe:

The Alexandria Ensemble was there too

And some guest performances

I took some more pictures but the lighting in the place (a microbrew house in Boulder) didn’t do well. Other people took much better pictures. That’s life. Also, the tribe’s website is HERE .

Colorado Med Fest

Friday, June 1st, 2018

Well, the weather was great!

The “Twins” at the festival

Richard and some of the dancers

And some of the performers

This was another Alexandria performance (4 sets total over a 2 day period). When you add up the time it takes to haul all that equipment to the Devil’s Backbone Open Space in Loveland, Colorado, put up the tent, take it down after the show, provide refreshments for the crew and dancers we probably made about $2/hour per person– But it was worth it!

Ween Town

That time of year…

Evil Clown Pair

Organ Playing Giraffe

The usual Halloween stuff. You know this town loves to wear costumes. I’ll just leave these two pictures without any explaination.

Rosemary’s farm

Saturday, October 7th, 2017

It’s where we had our first samba instruction from Marcus Santos:

No Samba this time

We came as the Alexandria group to play for the local dancers at the Art in the Farm or was it an Artisan Fair or something like that.

The dancers loved the live music

Well, maybe not some of our strange 13 beat time signatures; Next time we will warn them when that happens!

Don’t remember this group’s name

I think they were new to Fort Collins. Anyhow, it seemed like they all had a great time. Rosemary’s farm is called the Laughing Buck Farm, located on the north side of town.

Bloco is back in the park

Monday, April 10th, 2017

Maybe some new people added?

Bloco em Foco starts up Monday in the park

The best samba band in Fort Collins is working on getting their normal First Friday outings by rehearsing in City Park every Monday in 2017!

FOCOMX #8

Sunday, April 24th, 2016

Wow! This is our eighth music experiment. Time sure does fly! Here’s a memory from our first time!

It’s FALE, the African Drum and Dance group

Drumming in this town is everywhere. Our first introduction was the symphony for 1000 drums. Funny, I never attended a FALE class. Oh well, there’s still time.

This is a band called BONER

So, it’s a band with a female singer/cello player who plays what they call “Dirty Funky Rock” with songs like  “Nobody loves me ’til three in the morning” and  “Sweet statutory summer”. They were at the “R Bar”, a a new gay-friendly alternative bar in town.

And of course we had to see Musketeer Gripweed

Again. We couldn’t pass up seeing the Reverend Monkey Paw and his friends. It was a great show, even if it was at the Aggie Theater (sure, the new owners cleaned the floor, but how long will that last?)

Drag On, Boats

Monday, July 20th, 2015

It’s the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival

A 2000 year tradition

But only in it’s 15th year in Colorado, the dragon boat race is a tribute to Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet born around 339 BCE. The dragon boat crew is comprised of  16 paddlers,  a drummer, a steersperson and a team captain.

Dancing to the Kendhang

Can you tell the guy on the left is faking it? The weather was great and the crowd was wonderful. The lines to the food booths were long and the line to the shuttle bus way too long.

Closing ceremonies?

The dragon dance is traditional at the opening of the boat race. Here, near the end of the last day, the dragon costumes are placed on the ground as performers dance around them.

The Bridge

Thursday, February 12th, 2015

Wow! This blog is 7 years old today.

There is a Bridge on stage

Again we paint and build sets for the Bas Bleu. Sure, we could be remodeling our kitchen instead, but then there would be no cast party after the whole thing was done so why bother?

Yet another Music Venue?

Sunday, January 4th, 2015

It’s called Nyx & Nox:

Retro 80’s Band played last night at the grand opening

It’s the new swinging hot spot for us Southsiders in FoCO Land with a 700 ft^2 dance floor and room for at least 300 party animals. The owner hopes it will be an alternate venue for the Aggie (improved seating and dance floor is a plus) or the Mish (Not quite the scenery the Mish has but not the hazardous drive either) So far it looks great and being so close makes it an easy decision to go.

Yums!

Saturday, July 12th, 2014

At Yum Yum’s on the Second Saturday of the month:

Drumming with amplified banjo and violin

And belly dancers too. The Middle East meets CSU campus with weird fiddle and banjo dancing with Santori Dance group. Time to get your shimmy on!
