Maxwell’s path

Sunday, June 29th, 2014

Remember Maxwell’s Farm ? His grandpaw had a trail named after him:

Stuff you gotta have on this path

OK, maybe some people brought a patch kit and a pump but didn’t know how to use them. This is that path that takes you past the big ‘A’ in the foothills up to the Horsetooth Reservoir. Kind of rough and no shade trees anywhere. On a hot day like today what dummy would be out taking this route?

View of the stadium looking east

You don’t get this view unless you take the path. It is of course Hughes Stadium, home to the CSU RAMS football club and Sonny Lubick Field. Bob Dylan recorded a live concert album here. Some football was played.  These people don’t want this stadium anymore. These people want to keep it. Who will win out?

OK, besides water and food, and things to fix a flat, what else do you bring?

How about a crappy bike,  a cart, a corgi dog, and a banjo? The word on the street is “DON’T DO THIS EVER AGAIN!” Not the best way to train for RAGBRAI and things could have gone sour fast. Although Duncan rode most of the way, he had to help pull us up some steep parts which was not his style. When we got to the edge of the reservoir, Duncan made a mad dash for the water and jumped in.  I have never seen him do that before.. must have been one hot dog.

Duncan with friends

Friday, June 27th, 2014

Here Duncan finds time to spend with other corgis:

At one of the dog parks

Duncan found two friends and had a great time playing around. Duncan does well with other corgis, but he would still prefer dogs with longer legs.

At one of the ‘Bike 2 Work days’ breakfast stops

Duncan poses with SMOKEY the bear.  Not a real bear in this case but there was a report that a real live bear was seen out near the Poudre River and Taft Hill Road on the same day perhaps guided in by the smell of cooked bacon.

HAIL FOCO?

Tuesday, June 24th, 2014

All along N/S Harmony road Fort Collins was hit by a hailstorm today:

Average size for our area

But further east the hail piled up on the roadways and some claim tennis ball sized or larger. Roofs, skylights and gardens got shot to hell today. Nobody remembers hail this bad, but who knows? So far, our damage appears to be bug screens and window glazing. Don’t know about the roof yet.

Going Organic

Thursday, June 19th, 2014

Well it *is* legal in this state:

Choice Organics is located out near I-25 and Mulberry Streets behind ‘Furniture Row’

We’ve seen some place out near the town of Greeley that looked seedy (in Greeley, how could you tell?) where questionable people waited outside in a long line waiting for their turn to be fixed up.  Not here! No! This place had a pleasant waiting room with reading material and a clean bathroom. The people waiting  seemed friendly. Everyone was in a good mood *before* their number was called and were allowed to come through the security door.

Some items purchased

A little bottle of THC tincture (watermelon flavored) and something in pill form. The people behind the counter are very nice and will try to answer all your questions; even give you free sniffs of buds! The items are delivered in a white envelope that is supposed to be childproof  meaning you need three hands to open it. All in all, a good experience. The ATM inside is a very busy machine!

Comic Con Denver

Monday, June 16th, 2014

Had time on Sunday to check this out:

I decided to go as extra lame evil DC villain Kirt Filpots, AKA Mr. Banjo

And we may have seen from a distance the following celebrities that I have actually heard of (the numbers after their names equate price of an autograph / price of a photo op):

Levar Burton ($40/$40)  Micheal Dorn ($40/$40)  Jonathan Frakes ($40/$40)  Walter Koenig ($40/$30)

Bruce Campbel ($40/$50) Gates McFadden ($40/$40) Julie Newmar ($40/$50) William Shatner ($80/$80)

Denise Crosby ($40/$40) Mirina Sirtis ($40$40) Burt Ward ($50/$60) Adam West ($80/$65)

So the campy Batman and James Kirk ask for and get double the amount for an autograph. Needless to say we only saw these people and didn’t get any autographs. Also, Lou Ferrigno was seen at the show as well.

Samba Museum

Sunday, June 15th, 2014

The samba band Bloco em FoCo is at it again:

At the Fort Collins Museum of Discovery

We were doing a special school program at the museum and we had some help from the high school students on the last night of their one week musical class.

Normal weirdness at the Loveland Creator Space:

Some sort of welding experiment

It looks big and heavy and the last time at the space, the ‘sculpture’ was gone. Within a month the new space should have lots of room and maybe this thing will be back.

Bloco Cafe

Thursday, June 12th, 2014

For the FoCo Cafe:

Concert to benefit a Pay-What-You-Can Cafe in Fort Collins

The Bloco buds were out in force on Oak Street Plaza to help drum up some money for the FoCo Cafe whose mission is “To build community by providing nutritious and delicious meals to the people of Fort Collins regardless of their ability to pay while using local, organic, and sustainably grown ingredients.”  Scheduled to open in August, the samba band’s workout provided enough for 40 meals to be served at the cafe.

The Reverend Monkey-Paw took this picture

Sunday, June 8th, 2014

In Old Town Fort Collins:

At the Musketeer Gripweed Show

This is a photo taken by Professor Jason Downing (CSU Sociology Dept.) AKA, the Reverend Monkey-Paw Patterson, the lead vocal of the band “Musketeer Gripweed”. Jim and Jeanne are in this picture (see ’em?).

FCMRR 2014

Thursday, June 5th, 2014

FCMRR conductors Jim and Jeanne stopped in for a retirement party!

In uniform why not?

It was yet another volunteer day working on the railroad for Jim and Jeanne who had to rush over to Foothills UU for Mark’s retirement party; No time to change out of uniforms; sort of made the event a minor costume party.
